Where Good Gets Better

hf-Cabo2Windswept dunes and breathtaking drops make Quivira Golf Club a golfer’s paradise.

Built in one of the world’s most striking settings, Quivira Golf Club is in a private gated retreat,

just 10 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas and a heartbeat away from the true Land’s End of the Baja Peninsula. Created as an exclusive amenity for guests of the Quivira community and Pueblo Bonito Oceanfront Resorts and Spas, who even have access to a private helicopter to shuttle them back and forth, the course boasts unmatched topography. In fact, the Golden Bear, as Jack Nicklaus is known, suggests that he had to design Quivira with the ever-changing elements in mind. All 18 holes on the challenging ocean-desert course, which is marked by three miles of sparkling white beaches, sheer granite cliffs, massive windswept dunes and rolling desert foothills, have views to the sea.

A game at Quivira starts at sea level, within earshot of the pounding surf. Players then climb the higher ground on the cliffs and dunes to 300 feet above sea level, before dropping back down to the beach. Nicklaus has used natural changes in pitch in the sides of the hills to carve out tees, fairways and greens. That has  allowed him to design four holes at which the golfers are looking down on the green as they tee off.

During the round, players can re-fresh themselves at four unique hf-Cabo3comfort stations interspersed throughout the all-inclusive facility. A halfway house situated near the eighth green, called the “Oasis,” showcases the culinary talents of the resort’s chefs, with regional cuisine and refreshments available. And, of course, when the day is complete, the thatched-roof clubhouse between the first tee and the 18th green offers a large bar, a casual steakhouse and ample outdoor seating.

For both golfers and wanna-bes, a day on the course is simply magical, with the breathtaking views, vivid colours, mind-blowing drops and natural hazards that Mexican courses are so famous for. Open only to members and guests. I guess it pays to have friends!
