Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about refreshing your home. Whether that’s just a little here and there, or a full overhaul in more than one room, it can make the world of difference.

If you fancy a bit of a change but are unsure where to begin, here are some of the top design tips for the year ahead.

1) Sustainability is huge

One of the biggest tips we can give for 2020 is to go green. Re-use, recycle… whatever you do to your home, do it in a way that’s kind to Mother Nature.

The drive for a more sustainable lifestyle is everywhere right now; we need to make a difference, and there’s plenty of ways we can do this through both our lifestyle choices and what we do in the home. Experiment with upcycling to give things a second lease of life, and make more sustainable choices with flooring and furniture by purchasing for longevity, as well as fewer, higher quality pieces.

2) Stay secure

If you’re thinking about revamping your home, it’s all very well making sure it looks good, but don’t forget to protect it, too.

One of the best ways to do this is through a home security system – do your research and make sure you’re getting a good deal, but don’t overlook key safety features in doing so. One of the main things to look out for is aspects such as multiple entry points, wireless equipment for ease, and both outdoor and indoor cameras.

3) Experiment with colour

For some time, neutral shades have been the choice of stylish homeowners, but with the turn of a new decade comes the chance to branch out.

Breathe new life into any room in your home with shades of pinks, corals, yellows, and for those of you who don’t want to go too bold, Pantone’s colour of the year: Classic Blue. Coloured sofas have snowballed in popularity over recent years, but take a more subtle approach and you can include wallpaper, lampshades, cushions, or in the bedroom, fresh bedding.

4) Go vintage, baby

Keeping in line with the eco-friendly approach, vintage décor and accents are starting to spill onto home mood boards, but not as we know it.

Avoid going over the top and keep modernity by adding traditional vintage touches, such as spindles, spooled legs, and delicate statement pieces which just add the right amount of class to any room.

5) More prints please

From florals to animal prints and the more traditional patterns, expect to be seeing a lot more prints in the home this year.

Mixing and matching patterns is set to gauge the interest of interior designers everywhere, as more and more homeowners look to incorporate colour in an interesting way. If you want to explore this trend, take it to the level you feel comfortable with (whether that’s minimal, or to the max), and one which suits the overall interior of your home.
