Located in east Oslo, Norway, the Michelin-starred Kontrast is run by head chef and owner Mikæl Svensson. The restaurant has a semi-industrial feel, derived from the decorative combination of concrete floors, exposed pipework and an open kitchen. Kontrast’s seasonal dishes are, as promised, a study in cheeky colourful contrast. Svensson, it seems, takes delight in daily menus that merge sweet and savoury local ingredients in playful, innovative combinations that capture farm-fresh flavours and Nordic culinary traditions at their finest.
Svensson earned his first Michelin star in 2006, and deservedly so: The selections of both food and wine on the sexy six-and 10-course menus are, alone, worth a visit to Oslo. Given Svensson’s rising star, bookings must be made well in advance.
