Man cave must haves

By Mark Eglington

After months at home, many of us are ready to build an even nicer man cave for ourselves as the winter sets in. Aside from the privacy, and peace and quiet your upgraded space will afford you, these goodies are sure to be the icing on the cake, so to speak.

Zero gravity recliner: This’ll help you lay back in style. Watch TV, fall asleep or hang out when you’re in the doghouse. Could also be a comfy work from home option?

Big screen TV (or projector): For hockey nights with the guys or family movie night, opt for the best with a powerful sound system to boot. If you’re going for over 85” consider a front projector that can produce a picture 130” or larger!

Full size and bar fridges: Who wants to leave their shiny new man cave and engage in the lacklustre task of walking upstairs for a cold beverage or snack? Plan an enviable built-in bar with a Liebherr beverage centre and Liebherr’s 27.7cu.ft integrated “Trio”—a side-by-side fridge, wine cooler and freezer (shown above).

Pool tables and Poker tables: Real men need other forms of entertainment, (sometimes). In the old days it was a simple game of 8 ball. Now pool tables are as unique and extravagant as humanly possible and a poker game between friends on a Wednesday night may be just what the doctor ordered.

Secret entrance: A speak-easy style approach adds a little mystique. Sneak in through a hidden door in the laundry room, a glass porthole floor entrance with a circular stairway to the wine cellar or a simple private side door. Gatsby had one… why not you?

Personal touches: How about a bragging wall with custom lighting? Your local taxidermist can help mount the humongous bass you caught last summer. Hang it beside the sports trophies and dream team hockey jerseys that belong here too.

Why limit happy to just one hour a day? Enjoy your “cavetime” whenever possible and remember there are 24 hours in a day and 24 beers in a case.
