A grain, or two, of boldness

While some prefer to play it safe, rather than take on new things, there’s something to be said for having a sense of adventure and an audacious approach to everyday life.

In the world of design, magic happens when you’re undaunted and ready to flex your bravest creative muscles to leave a big, and lasting, impression. You can’t have missed this issue’s cover … Simone Guidarelli’s lush Exotic Jungle pattern, a riot of plants, flowers, leaves and animals, that’s a case in point.

Boldness is having the confidence to push beyond the norm and take the leap to pursue the most daring of patterns, bright colours and unusual shapes. Undaunted by the bland, the normal and the ordinary, it’s all about fearlessly pursuing your vision. Designer Sasha Bikoff once said, I live for drama, the theatrical and the narrative that creates something completely new” I’m sure Guidarelli, would agree.

While career endeavours may be bold and fill our bank accounts, wandering the world is fuel for our souls. As Ibn Bottuta opines, “travel can leave us speechless, and then turn us into storytellers”. Embracing the great unknown is both eye-opening and heartwarming – a delightful open book with many pages to devour.

Venturing off the beaten path means going out of our warm and fuzzy comfort zones. Being ready to bravely adapt and appreciate whatever comes along, takes more than spoon full of confidence. But the rewards of challenging the familiar in all parts of our lives can, I believe only invigorate.
