Soul exploring:

A monastic, fresh-air retreat

In the spiritual heart of the country, Eremito Hotelito del Alma—a little hotel of the soul—is a unique eco-resort set on 3,000 hectares of protected forest, immersed in serene surroundings.

Marcello Murzilli a barista turned fashion designer turned pioneering hotelier is both owner and designer of Eremito. After carving out eco lodges in some of the most exclusive destinations in the world, – his first, was Hotel Desconocido, Mexico’s Pacific Coast- Murzilli was ready for something new. After sailing around the world in a restored wooden boat, he began to think about creating a hotel that “doesn’t exist”. “It was not important to me to make a nice hotel. Lots of people know how to make nice hotels”, claims Murzilli. Instead, he claims to have been curious enough to try and create a new concept of luxury in a world where all of our material things are simply not enough.

An early leader in the conscious hotel movement, Eremito’s construction painstakingly adhered to the 13th- century art of Italian masonry using 130,000 historic stones during the 4-year build.

While the electricity is generated by a photovoltaic system that covers more than 100% of its consumption, the main source of lighting comes from candles in keeping with the properties retrospective spirit.

Furnishings are comfortable but few to allow for introspection. ‘Celluzze” solo rooms take their inspiration from Franciscan minimalism true to the region’s monastic heritage. Here, silence is truly golden. There is no guru or set method and time spent is not about restriction or asceticism. Rather, it’s about really discovering the joy in living.

The Eremito experience is designed for single travellers who wish to re-connect with nature, participate in epigenetic boost recovery retreats, eat local and self-grown produce in the onsite vegetarian restaurant and disconnect from with world’s saturating media culture—the greatest luxury in the world.

HOMEFRONT RECOMMENDS–

The “Celluzze”

Very similar to the cells used by hermits in past these small and simple spaces come with a wrought iron bed hand-made hemp bedding, a shower and toilet. Although the basic comforts are in the room, you will not find a telephone, TV or wi-fi. Instead expect a comfortable desk made of stone by the window where one can be inspired while admiring the green valley and floor heating in the colder months.
