Charm, elegance and Chardonnay…

A wine lover’s dream escape

Montrachet is a prestigious Grand Cru vineyard in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy, France that straddles the villages of Chassagne and Puligny. Widely considered the greatest and most expensive dry white wine in the world, it produces exceptionally complex, age-worthy Chardonnay.

Montrachet wines are famous for their oily, rich texture and notes of marzipan, hazelnut, honey, and crisp green apple. Because of their weight and aristocratic character, they are best paired with rich dishes such as lobster, scallops, caviar, foie gras, or roasted chicken in creamy mushroom sauces. Due to extremely limited quantities and high demand, a bottle of authentic Montrachet Grand Cru generally starts at hundreds—often thousands—of dollars.

Beyond the legendary Grand Cru itself “Montrachet” also refers to the surrounding family of vineyards and the nearby villages. It’s here in Puligny-Montrachet that we come across the 19-century village inn that’s now COMO Le Montrachet.  With 28 rooms and suites accented with blue, green and grey, that surround the village square, the Inn’s three buildings are but steps from the shallow sloped, south east facing hill that’s home to the legendary Montrachet Family vineyard. Heralded for both its limestone and clay soil and deep sun exposure, it’s the perfect environment for Chardonnay.

Also at COMO’s exquisite property, the Montrachet Restaurant for authentic French cuisine with modern touches. Executive Chef Romain Versino’s cuisine is served alfresco on the shaded terrace, or in the Inn’s limestone walled dining room with exposed beamed woven willow ceilings, lava topped tables and an extensive 1200 bottle cellar. The food which changes with local harvests is as refined as the setting—a beautiful langoustine tail with butternut squash, toasted buckwheat and Bresse cream for example, or scallops from Erquy with Jerusalem artichokes and chestnuts.

A family stay at Villa Christine

With five rooms and suites each with accents of white and characterful Toile de Jouy Prints, the standalone Villa has the capacity for twelve adults and two children. Spend the day e-biking or cycling through vineyards with a picnic, wine and cheese tasting with the Sommelier or taking a Chef’s cooking class. Baune is but twenty minutes away.
