Wild, rugged and really remote!

Tucked away in the ultra pristine north, Deplar Farm is the ultimate spot to revel in adventure and revitalize.

Elves and traditional Nordic Folklore are important aspects of Icelandic Culture at Deplar farm. So much so that the buildings were respectfully built to accommodate the historic Elf Hills. Deplar Farm in the mountainous Troll Peninsula pays homage to the authentically tough Icelandic architecture of days gone by.

In an isolated part of the country that’s really off the beaten path, Deplar was originally a rural sheep farm where hardy shepherds tended their flocks. Today, we’re told this is the region of Iceland with the country’s most snow, seasonally closed roads and the most fearless heli-skiing guides.

Adventurers only please
Referred to as “Adventure Capitalists by design,” Deplar’s heli-skiing guides are known for getting after it and following the snow no matter what the time of year. The vast snow-packed terrain, that is free to roam, is approximately 1,500 square miles. Think of wide open bowls, steep contours and long runs from mountain peak to ocean shore. With a daily one hour maximum flight to get to the snow, skiers should be able to get in 8 to 10 stable runs of 2,500–3,500 vertical feet. Best to mention that this incredible trek is recommended for intermediate to strong skiers.

Seaside slopes and elevated angling
Over 60 metres above sea level and with four lifts to carry individual skiers to the top, nearby Siglo Resort offers a way for more conventional skiers to cruise down both gentle slopes or steeper inclines. With summit-to-sea descents there are definitely views to write home about.

Iceland has also been attracting the best anglers on the planet to fish its famous waters. The Fljotta, The Holkna and the Huseyjarkvisl are coveted fly fishing rivers that are within easy access to the farm for exclusive experiences. There’s even the rare opportunity to heli-ski and catch trophy trout in the same day on the Husdyiarkvisl where salmon are king in July and August. With 100% catch and release, maximum of two rods a day.

Best day ever
On top of world class skiing and fishing, Deplar Farm adventure planners curate a full-on action-packed agenda depending on the season, your experience levels and your vacation goals. Activities from white water rafting, kayaking, whale watching and surfing, to fat biking and horseback riding can be arranged with customized itineraries for each guest. Given its northern location, the rugged Trioli region also offers unforgettable views of the Northern Lights available from October to April. By night, the best place to catch a glimpse of them is from the outdoor geothermal pool that’s filled with natural spring water.

At Deplar, a soak isn’t just relaxing, it’s healing!

A seaside resort that’s a window to the world

Japan always surprises me. In the best way. Two hours from the shiny surface of Tokyo, my plane circles a mountainous green island. It could be the Caribbean but instead, it’s a Unesco World Heritage site that’s part of Japan.
