Making the best of its enviable reputation, the Drake Devonshire in Prince Edward County seems as popular as ever during my recent visit. Expanding this year to add more rooms, the retro chic property in Wellington remains one of those see-and-be seen spots in the county for micro-weddings, celebrations and get-away weekends.
Since opening the boutique hot-spot has been known for its genuine laid-back county vibe, funky art collection, county classic cuisine with a twist and city prices. It still ticks all the boxes.
Cute and cool
The Drake’s beachfront is tiny but well-curated. The summer-only deck with its cascading bleachers is the perfect place for a signature cocktail or al fresco lunch or dinner. Latest additions, three beach decks (called the Perch) for lounging and Vinyasa, a lake view 12-person sauna and a cozy, creek-side firepit. Also on-site, the pavilion, boasts a rotating roster of diversions for all ages and legendary, Memphis Tuesday open mic nights. Corporates can meet and couples can marry in the glass box and there’s the massage hut and hammock hill for a laid back afternoon escape.
Well-deserved
It’s advisable to book ahead for both rooms and meals and… If you can swing it stay in the Owner’s Suite—the top floor room with a view that promises sweet dreams.
