Barefoot and blissful

Ocean air, salty hair and tropical flair

In the middle of nowhere, sun-kissed elegance meets out-island adventure at Kamalame Cay, the ultimate great escape destination. An invitation from the Hew family to unplug and explore their romantic, off-radar sultry island jewel is, indeed, paradise found.

With the next generation of well-travelled hoteliers taking over the reins of Kamalame Cay, smart bikinis and swim trunks continue to count as dressed for dinner. Individually designed cottages, bungalows and newly built villas earn praise for their ‘très chic’ vibe. And, imaginative Asian-accented Bahamian dinners or late breakfasts served on the beach are always in vogue.

Cuisine on the island is seasonally inspired with a charming assortment of daily dining options. Stocked with a steady harvest of delightfully fresh produce and free-range chicken eggs from the family’s 200-acre farm on Andros Island, the resort is committed to being as self-sufficient and low impact as possible. With anti-plastic and sustainable planting initiatives as well the ‘Lionfish for lunch program’ (designed to eliminate the non-indigenous predator), the Kamalame team is also committed to “no take” reserve protection.

David and Michael’s beautifully dressed, long-table ‘Luncheons’ for one hundred people are lauded spirited community events. With their passionately planned menu that pair fine wine or champagne, the monthly luncheons celebrate gracious island living with an afternoon of dining, dancing, and drinking for a lively crowd of friends, family, international hotel guests, island homeowners, and Nassau locals who boat over for the day.

As experiences go, to dive or snorkel here, regardless of your level of experience is to explore balmy untouched waters with 100-foot visibility into the sea’s stunning marine eco-system and the world’s largest coral complex. For the bold…the Tongue of the Ocean, is 6,000 feet straight down collection of blue holes, canyons, caves and chutes to explore. Expect dolphin sightings, turtles, eagle rays and fish, sponges and sea whips a plenty. Freediving, reef rescue programs and world-class bone fishing in the crystal waters are all here for you. When you’re not in or on the water, Kamalame has the only overwater spa in the Bahamas. Offering a holistic mix of plant and marine based facials, scrubs, massages and wraps performed by passionate locals, you can count on putting checkmarks on your holiday’s R and R agenda.

Heaven can wait… we’ve discovered Kamalame!

Getting here

Surrounded by miles of white sand beach, 18 miles from Nassau, Kamalame Cay is on its own island. Guests take an international flight to Nassau, hop on a puddle jumper to Andros the largest of the 700 islands in the Bahamian archipelagos, (or taking a 40-minute boat ride). The last step is a pleasant inlet crossing on the resort’s open-air ferry. www.kamalame.com
