A historic jewel shares its glacial waters

Two decades in the planning, the Basin Glacial Waters has opened at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, a 539 key-hotel set on the lake in more than 6,500 sq km of protected pine forest in the heart of Banff National Park.

The 1800 square foot eco-friendly bathing and bathhouse complex, designed by Matteo Thun, takes its name from the natural basin fed directly by the Victoria Glacier.

Through dramatic arched windows of the ‘Basin’ there are stunningly uninterrupted views of the lake and mountains. And, there’s everything our hearts could desire…from crushed ice to steam mists, an infinity pool and a series contrast bathing pools, a reflexology circle plus a 20-person sauna with ceremonial Aufgussmeisters—the quintessential wellness treat.

All guests are also invited to choose self-guided paths or take the plunge with one of five curated experiences intended to provide a desired outcome. There’s the ‘Stillness Trail’ for gentle, soothing and restful results and  Presence’ Trail designed to counter the effects of anxiety or jetlag and more.

And, to round it off, why not step into the redesigned hotel spa for a 2.5-hour Glacial Body Treatment followed by afternoon tea in the lounge. Wellness–done!
