Largest cruise ship sails on the Great Lakes

By Kylie MacKenzie

In a modern version of Great Lakes cruising of yesteryear, Thunder Bay will be turnaround port for new cruise ship called the Octantis, voyaging to Milwaukee via Duluth starting in 2022.

The 378-passenger boat will be the largest passenger vessel the Great Lakes has ever seen at 205 meters (670 feet) in length.  It will have six decks, a crew of 250, grand cabins and hospitality spaces along with two submersible boats for viewing shipwrecks, Octantis also has a special design and an ice-strengthened hull, allowing its owners to use it in the Antarctic in the southern hemisphere in the summer months.

The first Milwaukee-to-Thunder Bay eight-day tour will leave the Wisconsin city on May 21, 2022 with prices starting at $8,395 including airfare and continue into September.
